The majority of the mothers that have treated childhood convulsion at home claimed the effectiveness of using blue alum.

METHOD OF PREPARATION

Soak BLUE ALUM (ALOOMU DUDU) in water for three days to dissolve totally. The dissolved blue alum is either forced into the prised mouth of the convulsing child with the hope that he/ she would swallow it or the dissolved alum is painted topically on the body of the convulsing child.

DOSAGE:

The dosage is one spoonfuls of the dissolved blue alum which must taken or painted topically on the body of the patient once per week.

THERAPEUTIC INCISIONS (ABEE YIYA/ ABEE SISA)

The concept of making therapeutic incision on a convulsing child common practice in Osogbo south western Nigeria. It is believed that childhood convulsion like other illness including sickle cell anaemia and arthritis are due to “black blood” an incision making create an avenue for letting out this “black blood” and thus affect healing.

PRECAUTION:

Before and after therapeutic incision(ABE YIYA), a traditional herbal concoction called fold blood concoction (AGBO EJE) must be taken by the patient to avoid shortage of blood.
